Human Saccharomyces cerevisiae-like 1 (SEC14L1), located on chromosome 17q25, shows partial sequence homology to the budding yeast SEC14 protein and the Japanese flying squid retinal-binding protein. SEC14L1, a SEC14 family member, is a RIG-I-associated negative regulator. SEC14L1 functions as a novel negative regulator of RIG-I-mediated antiviral signaling by preventing RIG-I interaction with the downstream effector. The cytosolic factor SEC14L1 is a regulator of lipid metabolism and signaling pathways that plays a role in cancer. SEC14L1 is one of the most significant genes associated with lymphovascular invasion. SEC14L1 is an independent prognostic factor in breast cancer. Its association, at both transcriptome and protein expression levels, with lymphovascular invasion and outcome could imply an important role in tumor progression
